THE PLAYER

240 × 240 · FOUR KEYS

AN MP3 PLAYER THAT LIVES ON THE KEY.

The same stick the deck reads is a MP3 pocket player on the way there. Headphones into the jack or bluetooth option, four buttons, one screen. No phone, no laptop, nothing to unlock.

The key playing a track: Let The Music by Loveland and Rachel McFarlane, 130 BPM, key 11A, five stars, Dance. A waveform, 02:11 elapsed and 01:18 left, next track Ritmo Tempo. The buttons read prev, next, back, pause.

A PLAYER, ON THE KEY ITSELF.

Title, artist, album, BPM, key, rating. Exactly the same fields the DJ deck puts on its own display, on a screen in your pocket. The waveform is the one already written into the file, not a re-analysis, so what you see here is what the CDJ will draw.

Playlist, artist, album, track, genre, BPM, key, rating, colour, label, remixer, year, folder. This is not a tree we invented. It is the one rekordbox writes and the deck reads, with the same names in the same order.

  • Counts are real read off the key, not typed in
  • Nothing renamed no re-sorting between here and the booth
Browsing by artist on the key: a scrolling list of 144 artists with their track counts, one row inverted to show the selection.

ARTIST → ALBUM → TRACK.

Drill down exactly as you would in the booth. The selected row inverts, the count sits on the right, the scrollbar tells you how much is left. What you learn on the train you already know at 02:00.

The tree is not ours. It is the one rekordbox writes and the deck reads: playlist, artist, album, track, genre, BPM, key, rating, colour, label, remixer, year, folder. What you scroll through is what you will scroll through in the booth, in the same order, under the same names. Sorting can be changed in settings

WHAT WE DID

THE UNGLAMOROUS PART

WE TOOK IT APART.

DJs kept hitting the same wall, so we went and found out why. We pulled apart how Rekordbox writes a library and how Pioneer’s players read one: the database, the analysis files, the tag fields the firmware actually trusts. The gap between those two is where your set dies at 02:00.

Dyapason is what closes the gap. Not a converter, not a plugin, not a subscription: one pass over your library that re-aligns every file to what the deck expects, so the deck never has to guess. It runs after Rekordbox, on what Rekordbox left behind.

THE MANAGERWORKS TODAY

Desktop software for macOS (incoming version for windows). Point it at a drive, pick the deck it is going into, press Prepare. It reports every file it touched and what it changed. It works for Dyapason devices but also for your existing USB key.

Switch deck profile on the key. No laptop in the booth. On a standard stick you would have to go back to your computer. Browse and listen to what you are carrying. Screen, four buttons, headphone jack. Check the set on the train.

PROTOTYPE IS BUILT FROM PARTS YOU CAN NAME.

The prototype is standard components, wired and programmed by us. Nothing here is a rendering. We would rather show you the parts list than a spec sheet we have not measured.

WHO IS BEHIND IT.

Zecchinetta. DJ, artist and engineer, entrepreneur.

I kept hitting the same failures in the booth and got tired of waiting for someone else to fix them. Party time is too precious to lose to a file format. So I took the problem apart and built the thing that fixes it.

There is a second reason. The pocket player of the 2000s was a good idea, and it never should have gone away, least of all for the people who carry a whole set around with them. So the key plays too.
